Community United Methodist Church

202 S. 6th St., P.O. Box 507, Westcliffe, CO 81252, 719/783-2511

The United Methodist Church is a Singing Church!

Charles Wesley, brother of John Wesley (founder of Methodism),
wrote many familiar hymns,
 including:

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling; Christ the Lord is Risen Today; and
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
.

We take seriously
John Wesley's exhortation to:

"Sing lustily
and with a good courage.
Beware of singing as if you
were half dead, or half asleep;
but lift up your voice with strength."

In that bold spirit, we offer a variety of ways for you to lift up your voice,
or your instrument, if you prefer!

The-Pretty-Good-String-Band Jam Session
is Smokin'

“Jam session" = a gathering
of pickers who get together to randomly play tunes
and to become more comfortable
with their instruments.

String Band doing a benefit
 at Pueblo's Union Depot

There is an open string jam session in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday nights, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. The session is open to the community, and players of all levels are welcome, beginners especially encouraged.

Children are welcome but must be controlled. Group coordinators reserve the right to ask that disruptive children be removed.

As a general rule, only acoustic (non-electric) stringed instruments will be allowed. On an average night, 6-12 people show up, playing guitars, upright bass, mandolin, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, and octophone.

Acoustic instruments other than stringed instruments will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. ‘Over loudness’ and compatibility with the string band would be prime considerations, for example - concertinas, harmonicas, spoons – ok. Accordions and most drums, not. Spectators are welcome, but will be asked to do their visiting between songs and at break.

Our objective is to have everyone hear every instrument and every word. A donation jar will be put out to pay for electricity, heat, etc. No drugs or alcohol are allowed. For further information, please contact Bev Allen at: bev9219@ridgeviewtel.us
